de HALABHÓID—XIde Halywode, Holywode, Holywood, Hollywood; Norman 'de Halywode,' and frequently in early Anglo-Irish records Latin 'de Sancto Bosco' and 'de Sacro Bosco,' i.e., of Hollywood (the holy wood), a parish in Co. Dublin. The family so named, which was one of the most distinguished of the Pale, settled about the time of the Anglo-Norman invasion in Dublin and Meath, where they possessed the manors of Artane, Great Holywood, and other estates.
