de FAE—XIde Faie, Faie, Fay; Norman 'de Faie,' i.e., of Faie, in Normandy; the name of an Anglo-Norman family who settled in Co. Westmeath. They were seated at Tromroe and Derrynegarragh, and seem to have been a family of considerable local importance in the 16th and 17th centuries. The name is to be distinguished from the Irish Ó Féich which is also anglicised Fay.
