de CRÁFORT—XIde Crauford, Crawford, etc.; Norman 'de Crauford,' i.e., of Crawford, a parish in Lanarkshire. The name is found in Anglo-Irish records as early as 1218, but, except in Donegal, there is no old family of Crawfords in Ireland. The Crawfords are for the most part descendants of Scottish settlers who came over at the time of the plantation of Ulster.
