CODA—VIII—Cod, Codde, Codd; 'son of Cod,' (an old Anglo-Saxon personal name; a short form of Cuthbert, Cuthwine, or some other name commencing with Cuth; variously written in Searle's Onomasticon, Coda, Cuda, Cudda, Cudd, Cuta, Cutta, etc. Code appears in Domesday Book as a holder of land in the time of Edward the Confessor). The Codds are an old and respectable family of Co. Wexford, to which county the name is peculiar.
