AIS—XIAysh, Ayshe, Asshe, Ashe; Middle English, 'atte Ashe,' i.e., at the ash, from residence beside an ash-tree. Families of this name settled soon after the invasion in Meath and Kildare. The following were indicted of treason in the King's Bench and outlawed in 1641 : Thomas Aysh, of Naas, gentleman; Henry Aysh, of same, gentleman; and Walter Aysh, of same, merchant.
