James John Stephens, Portrait Painter

(fl. 1829-1845)

Portrait Painter

From A Dictionary of Irish Artists 1913

A portrait painter in Dublin who had been trained in the Dublin Society's Schools, and exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy from 1829 to 1831. After the latter date he appears to have been absent from Dublin for some years; but in 1843 he had returned and exhibited in that year a portrait of "Richard Griffith." He was also an exhibitor in the two following years, but his name does not occur afterwards.
