The Civil War of 1641
In consequence of the confiscation of the possessions of the old Irish chiefs in Ulster, as above mentioned, they formed a powerful confederacy for the recovery of their territories; and a tremendous insurrection took place on the 23rd of October, A.D. 1641, which raged incessantly for a period of about seven years, mixed up with the Civil War in Ireland (between the English Parliamentary forces and the adherents of King Charles the First), and followed by the Cromwellian Wars, for a period of about three years—from 1649 to 1652.
