Seth, Seath, Sheach

Padraig Mac Giolla-Domhnaigh
1923

Seth, Seath, Sheach, Shiach, Shaw—These five names are the anglicised form of the North of Scotland sept name M'Keith (Mac Sithich), also anglicised Keith. This sept belongs in the North to the Clan Mcintosh, and the name is derived from Sithich, son of Gillchrist, son of John, son of Angus, the sixth chief of the M'Intoshes.

It and the Argyle sept name of Shaw, the latter being written in Gaelic Mac Gille-Sheathanaich, is sometimes confused with Norse name of Shaw in the districts on the Scottish border, and in North-West of England.
