Lavelle

Padraig Mac Giolla-Domhnaigh
1923

Lavelle—This name is the anglicised form O'Maolfhabhail, a Donegal sept, who ruled along with the O'Bruadairs "over the Clan Forgusa of Red Arms" in that county. It appears that some people are under the impression that the name is of French origin, and give it the pronounciation of Lavelle, the usual pronounciation I have heard amongst the old folk being Láv-elle.
