Lane—This name in N.W. Ulster is the anglicised form generally of the Donegal sept O'Liatháin, and in N.E. Ulster and Scotland it is the anglicised form of M'Lean (Mac Giolla-Eóin), or as Dr. McBain writes it in his work, Mac' Illeáthain). The name is also a shortened form of O'Lehane (O'Liatháin) in Co. Cork.
