Kilpatrick, Kirkpatrick—These two names are of Scottish origin and are synonymous with M'Ilpatrick and M'Ilpederick in the districts surrounding Ballymoney and other parts of Northern Antrim; in Downpatrick district, Co. Down; Innishowen, Co. Donegal; and Pointzpass, Co. Armagh; in Irish Gaelic Mac Giolla-Phádraic; the Scots Gaelic form being Mac Ghille-Phádruig, and also anglicised Patterson.
