Bridson, Bridgetson, Bridges, Brydson—These names are the anglicised forms of Mac Giolla-Bríghde, contracted to Mac Bríghde in Scotland and the Isle of Man. These three or four anglicised forms are found mostly in the Isle of Man; Bridges and Bridge in Western Lancs.; McBridge in S. Scotland; and McBride in most other parts of Scotland, and in Ulster.
