Bennett

Padraig Mac Giolla-Domhnaigh
1923

Bennett—This name is found spread over S.E. Ulster, and also in the form of McBennett (Mac Beinéid). Art McBennett, of Forkhill, Co. Armagh, was a Gaelic poet and scribe of the 19th century. The name Bennett is pretty common in Cornwall, and, according to Guppy, is "indifferently derived from the early personal name of Benedict, and from 'benet,' a minor priest." This does not apply to the Ulster name, which, I think, is of Pictish origin in that province.
