PRÚT—XIIPrut, Prute, Proud, Prout; Norman 'le Prut,' 'le Proute,' 'le Proud,' i.e., the proud (Old English 'prut,' Middle English 'prout,' 'proute'). This surname had come into Ireland before the middle of the 13th century. The family settled in Kilkenny and Tipperary, in the latter of which counties, at least, it is still extant.
