Mac LEÓID—V—MacLeod, MacCleod, MacCloud; 'son of Leóid' (the Norse 'Ljotr,' ugly); the name of a well-known Scottish clan, once powerful in Lewis and Harris. Some of them settled in Ireland in the 16th century.
