EASMONN—VIIIEstmund, Eetmond, Esmond, Esmonde; 'son of Eastmund ' (an Anglo-Saxon personal name, written Estmunt in Domesday Book; 'Willielmus filius Estmundi' occurs in the Dublin Roll of Names A.D. 1216). The Esmonds settled at an early period in Co. Wexford. In 1303, Henry Estmund was commissioned by Edward I to provide ships at Wexford and elsewhere for the transporting of his army to Scotland, and in 1371 Thomas Estmunde was constable of Wexford castle. The family is at present represented by Sir Thomas H. G. Esmond.
